It’s Drivin’ Us Crazy
With the soaring cost of fuel, I am now thinking twice about my dad’s maintaining our own car. Same with advising a friend to take driving lessons. Is it still worth the effort and spending? Isn’t it wiser to hail a cab every time rather than pay for the regular maintenance, repair, and gas?
My dad says driving is still a skill that one has to acquire. For him, not knowing how would be a handicap. As you postpone lessons and the older you become, the lesser your potential to be a confident and skilled driver. My mom for instance, has always been nervous (unless she’s driving another person’s car). Though she had never been pulled over for driving without license, she is guilty of keeping a license without driving.
Now here’s an interesting exchange with a dear friend:
She: I won’t be taking lessons anytime soon. Wala rin naman kaming sasakyan na mamanehuhin ko pagkatapos.
Me: Added knowledge lang naman. Parang diving. May sarili bang pool ang mga ‘yan...
She: Onga naman. ‘Di mo rin kailangan ng sariling bundok bago ka mag-wall climbing.
Point well taken by now.
