Condolence to the Family of Melody
The car accident that caused the demise of 2009 Ms. International Melody Gersbach hit me as a shocking news item on the radio this morning. To think that we're of the same age (24) and I know that she has been helping other women in representing the Philippines abroad. Here, I even retrieved the script I made for Sheka when we covered last year at Araneta Colliseum.
Airing: 14 Sept 2009
Bb. Pilipinas, Fresh from the Bahamas (Sept 5, Araneta Coliseum Gazebo)
The She Ka Team was among the press that welcomed Bb. Pilipinas Universe Pamela Bianca Manalo after arriving from the pageant held at the Bahamas. A 23-year old Manila girl, she is an advertising graduate of the Assumption College and works as a flight attendant. She comes from a family of beauty queens, her older sister Kate Manalo-Hernandez being a former Ms. Philippines-World and an aunt, a former Ms. Philippines-International.
UPS 00:01:53.29 – 00:02:20.02
IN: I know that since day1, all of us are already winners
OUT: still Ms. Universe…I’m still happy with that (clapping)
To her, the Bahamian people are much like Filipinos who are hospitable. She’s a darling to the press, even during her stay in a foreign land. So candid, sharing how the Filipino community showed support when she arrived at the Bahamas.
UPS 00:05:55.24 – 00:06:15.08
IN: Pagdating ko dun
OUT: Mabuhay!
UPS 00:07:17.26 – 00:07:36.11
IN: Nakakataba lang ng puso
OUT: candles.
After Bahamas, she said, she’ll be missing the sleepless nights.
UPS 00:03:17.01 – 00:03:36.13
IN: Coz we always end up at 1 am
OUT: stand out all the time.
What are the chances for us to grab the elusive crown after Gloria Diaz and Margie Moran? The She Ka team also met with the ones next in line.
UPS 00:12:02.03 – 00:12:26.24
Melody Gersbach, Ms. International 2009
Marie-Ann Umali, Miss World 2009
IN: I would like to ask for your support (wearing violet)
OUT: prayers as well (wearing green / Ms. World)
For those who also dream of being a beauty queen like her, here’s her piece of advice.
UPS 00:04:32.24 – 00:04:38.17
“Remember that if you dream big and work hard, win or lose, you’ll be victorious.”
And she is right. Younger Ms. Venezuela brought home the crown but Bianca was able to show the world the free modern Filipina’s beauty, intelligence, and heart. From NBN-4, Congratulations for representing our country at the Ms. Universe pageant!
