Training Modules That Interest Me

Not all training modules are created equal.

With a random search in job-hunting websites with the filter "Trainer," you'd probably find a number of posts pertaining to process training in the BPO setting. This involves introducing new hires to the guidelines, policies and procedures of the line of business (LOB), explaining the quality standards, conducting a series of assessments and transitioning trainees to the live environment.

At one point, my friend and I wondered about being careless enough to apply for trainer positions that would eventually require dismantling machines. We laughed at the thought of being forced into something we are not really comfortable doing such as repairing the fridge, A/C, washing machine, karaoke and photocopier. My laughter didn't stop when I created a scenario where the training room would be on fire and I'll apologetically tell my boss "Sorry. This is my pilot class." LOL

Crazy strikes again. During my commute earlier today, I imagined how a bus conductor is being trained:

1. Balance - Since conductors should be able to keep standing while distributing tickets and collecting the bus fare, a hoverboard can be used in the training phase.

2. Voice Modulation - As they have to announce the stops and call on more passengers in long trips, utilizing their voice wisely should be part of the curriculum.

3. Ability To Pass Through - When the bus is jampacked, conductors would still need to walk the aisle - business as usual. My theory is, maintaining a certain waistline should be considered. During training, time can be measured as to how fast a trainee can pass through mock passengers.

4. Problem-Solving - Of course, conductors should be able to charge the amount appropriate for the distance traveled. There are many variations like Philcoa-Cubao, Cubao-Ayala and Philcoa-Ayala so problem-solving exercises are welcome!

5. Crisis Management - Security in the bus is of utmost concern. There should be a module for steps and strategies for emergency situations. Dramatization can be the teaching method, which can be conducted with a partner bus driver.

I am not really familiar with the onboarding process of bus conductors. Do they have one or do they go straight to OJT? The selection/hiring process is also interesting. Just for laughs, I imagined just asking "Are you a kind person? You're hired."
