I’m just so glad when the hosts commented that I had good training. Ms. Lovely Rivero appreciated my thorough scripts. Someday, I said, I’ll just put the main ideas in bullets. ;o)

Blogging helps. The job becomes easier when you make it a habit to write your thoughts and let creative juices flow freely. Hindi na uso sa ‘kin ang magsulat lang kapag “nasa mood.” More importantly, pray before, during, and after the live telecast.

Some anecdotes:

Kanina, live kami sa Protected Areas and Wildlife. May feature kami sa sinigang na salmon. Nagsumbong si Ms. Issa na kanina pa siya nilalapitan ng pusa.

Minamahal ko lalo ang trabaho ko, lalo na ang mga tagpong tulad nito:

Magulo at matao sa editing room. Papasok si Kuya Erwin, bitbit ang tapes. Sisigaw ng “Itigil ang kasal!” Sasabihan ko siya ng: “Nagpapatigil ka na naman ng kasal!” (Mag-iisip ng kalokohan) Teka, bakit mo dinala ‘yang mga tapes dito? Hinahanap ‘yan sa baba ah! (Para sa wastong ideya kung paano namin pakitunguhan ang isa’t isa, basahin ang Friendster comment niya sa ‘kin.)

The weekly grind:

Deciding on a theme
Research
Fax proposal for a taping or live guesting
Interview while shaping the feature and listing video support
Script then voiceover
Preview tape and note time codes. Sit with editor if you can.
Prepare sequence guide for EP, chargen, director, VTR man, and floor director
Prepare continuity for the hosts
Brief hosts and VTR man
Calculate time while airing and cue hosts
Roll credits na ba? Kainan na! Ang whole chicken ay saglit lang sa crew. Now you see it, now you don’t. Malinis silang magtrabaho, ika nga ng tatay ko.

I am accountable to my producer. Parang mag-ina na raw kami, habang magkaramay sa lalamanin ng isang oras na programa. Nakakapagod na fulfilling! Idagdag pa ang complement ni Kuya Gilbert tungkol sa halaga ko sa produksyon.

Kapag malapit nang kumulo ang dugo ng editor, ilabas ang hopia. Mukha siyang gutom habang ineedit ang footage ng mga restaurant na ifi-feature namin. Pero grabe ang bangis niya dahil maliban sa kailangang matalas ang paningin at baka may tumawid na langaw, hawak niya ang She Ka VTRs mula Lunes hanggang Biyernes! May nagtanong kung natatakot ba ako sa kanya ‘pag nag-iinit ang ulo. Pero inunahan niya na ng sagot: “Hindi. Matapang ‘yan.” Naiintindihan ko naman kasi siya. Ganun talaga sa industriya. Siya yata ang natakot sa pananahimik ko at nagsabi ng “Hoy MJ, hindi ako sa ‘yo nagagalit ha. Baka isipin mo...”
