What happens when a struggling and almost hopeless band gets supported by and gets entangled with the ways of gangsters? It’s the funny premise of “Gangster Rock,” a very amusing R-18 comedy. Violence and expressions like “dreamless dogs” aside, we come to see how mushy guys can get.

But far from the action and thrill of Gangster Rock, “Three Times” challenged our stamina. The story was divided into really, three times: Time for love, time for freedom, and time for youth.

Consider timing. There were portions where scoring could have come earlier. And so while the couple was eating supper and suddenly sweet music faded up, I asked: Bakit ngayon lang ‘yan? Haha. And when the man was shown travelling on a fairy boat for long, I thought, “di ba pwedeng lumubog para may kuwento?” There were a lot of talkless Billiards scenes so we also considered the production to be some kind of an ethnography. ;-)

Consider dialogue too. In part 2, the dialogue was not put in subtitles but in full screen. They could have saved a lot of time – our precious time. Later, there were technical glitches (a pirated DVD?) which also confused me. People started to walk out of the cinema. Could also be part of the story. Hihihi

Oh and by the way, you’ll also remember the film for recurring objects like the kettle and motorbike.
