Mga Alaala ng Kabataan
Just this weekend, I was able to be with my friends Russ, Lud, Analyn, and Ron who are all birthday celebrants. Talking about attitudes, we all agreed at one point that “iba na ang kabataan ngayon. Grabe ang attention span. Siguro dala ng teknolohiya at social media.” And this, among other expressions, is one of the strongest signs that we are aging.
This recognition comes rather often. At the office, we started this conversation about malt vs chocolate. From Milo, Ovaltine, to Ovalteenies and the jingle ad of Kean’s Nutrivim, there are just some things that our younger colleagues don’t know anymore. How about you? Are you familiar with the following:
1. Susie and Geno – the famous tandem for Sustagen that visits schools. We usually get items in exchange for the chips found inside cans, or when we win during the games at the booth.
2. Batobalani (Science), Student Time (Social Studies), and Saranggola (Values Education) are just some of the magazines or student newsletters that we subscribed to. Saranggola was not required, but would be for the “elite.” Hehe! Most people are not familiar with Student Time, which is a handy newsletter featuring current events and usually, updates on the ASEAN. There is a caricature on the front page and a crossword puzzle at the end.
3. Tropang Trumpo – I was hooked to this gag show before Bubble Gang… if my memory is not yet failing me. :D
4. Battle of the Brains w/ David Celdran – General Information, Math, Science, and History… we would answer with contestants while watching this TV program on weekends.
