Learnings About Our Newborn
We've been to two different pediatricians since our baby was born. First was in the province, and the second was when we arrived back in Manila. Ever since, I kept a list of questions that I wanted to ask so that each visit could be maximized and that my worries would be put to rest. Aside from answers I got, I also list here my other learnings about newborn care:
1. Umbilical hernia is a normal part of infancy, due to weak abdominal muscles. Just wait a few months and it will resolve on its own.
2. Hiccups can be due to not being able to burp after feedings, or because of crying. But there's no need to worry so much because just like the first item, this too shall pass.
3. It's okay if the baby poops 2-3 times a day or none at all. Anticipate that the frequency will also change.
4. It's okay to start giving vitamins only at 6 months, as long as weight gain is normal.
5. You can save a lot when buying diapers online than from physical stores.
6. In our latest visit this month, the pedia checked his lungs, balls, and whether he has a lip tie. It was comforting that everything was fine.
7. For immunization, give paracetamol every four hours for fever and pain. Do cold compress on the first day using a clean cloth, and hot compress on the next.
8. It's more convenient for the baby to wear onesies than sandos and shirts. You don't have to worry about pulling it down every time.
9. I prefer socks and mittens that do not have to be tied, especially when the baby gets fussy.
10. For bath soap, I prefer Enfant than Lactacyd Baby. Aside from the scent, neck rashes are also gone!
