Our Son's Baptism

We're ending the month on a high note because a significant event, our son's baptism, happened last Sunday. Then on the 28th, he turned 3 months old.

A month ago, I inquired at the parish office and was asked to submit the following:

1. Accomplished registration form listing the sponsors and information about the child

2. Copy of our marriage contract and child's birth certificate. For those who don't know, it is not required that parents be married in the Catholic church for the baby to be baptized. But sponsors must be Catholic hence the next requirement:

3. Copy of Baptismal/Confirmation Certificate from one pair of sponsors

Since we opted for a ceremony on a Sunday, we only paid 200 pesos for the framed certificate and candles. This is for a mass baptism where other babies were baptized together with ours. For those who opt to have a separate schedule (Tuesday-Saturday), the fee is 2000 pesos.

Our son has four pairs of sponsors but only five where physically present. In our church, there is a same-day seminar (catechesis) an hour before baptism which we all attended.

Aside from this preparation, my mom took care of the reservation of a function room for a late lunch after the ceremony. There were just 41 of us, but it was great reuniting with friends and relatives not just from Manila but also from Cavite and Laguna.

Of course, part of the joy of this season is that we're already counting the Ber months. I hope that the rest of the year will be jolly and meaningful.
