Lip Detox
Lipstick had been a constant companion in the different phases of my life. I’ve let go of other cosmetic products like foundation, eye shadow, and concealer but lipstick had stayed as a staple in my beauty kit. However, in the past two weeks, I was able to do away with it. Could my planned No Lipstick Week turn into No Lipstick Forever?
It’s not all about a drastic transformation for my lips but more of a reset. I’ve never really had issues such as flaking or roughness, but this detox made me more aware of my lips’ natural texture. The greatest outcome so far is my appreciation of its tone and condition, and not having to hide anything under color. Having healthy lips is a blessing, and the biggest benefit is really psychological for me: Proving that I don’t need lipstick to feel put together.
So if there wasn’t any issue with your lip condition, what made you think of doing a No Lipstick Week, you might ask. I got tired of applying and removing it when drinking or eating. Now I get to just take that sip of coffee without having to grab a table napkin to wipe off lip product that I’m afraid of swallowing.
Could this be a sign of entering a new era as my 40th birthday approaches, and wanting to just live my life uninterrupted? Maybe. Though I’ve always said I wear lipstick for myself and not for other people’s eyes (putting lipstick on when there’s no virtual meeting, and not doing it when there is), it feels liberating to not rely on lipstick for me to be happy when looking at the mirror. Plus I get to enjoy consistently comfortable lips.
My bare-lip era could be a sign of living my best, low-maintenance life. Would you like to edit your routine for ease too? I guess being simple and intentional is the way to go, not just in makeup but in life.
