Vietnam Through A Friend’s Eyes

1. “Motorbikes in Vietnam are safe,” he said. Running at 20 kph, it doesn’t matter even if you fall. Crowded as the place is, you don’t fall to the ground but onto your neighbor! What’s more, there are times when you don’t have to stand on two feet and walk, yet you will be brought to your destination.

2. In Vietnam, there are many millionaires. Refer to the paper bill!

3. Filipinos offer before they eat (Kain tayo!). In Vietnam, older people eat first, not because of respect, but to check on the presence of poison. “They die first.” Interesting!

4. With a few Vietnamese words for starters, I was at the brink of giving up. Just listening and observing, I curiously asked while they are speaking in the local language: Are you fighting? “No. It’s just the most interesting part of the conversation.”
