Saving vs Spending
Lately, I've been pondering on saving wisely. Why did I have to add "wisely"? Isn't it always wise to save money? Well, my goal is to save in a way that it's motivating to delay gratification while still enjoying the present.
So I broke it down to two questions:
First: What am I saving for?
- Travel
- My son's education
- Retirement home
- Giving back to my parents and having enjoyable experiences with them
- Good food
- Furniture and appliances that would make life more comfortable including good quality mattress, pillows, and beddings for good sleep (and I've recently blogged about purchases that I'm putting on hold)
- Ride-hailing services or on-demand transport
- Exploring different hotels in the metro and beyond
- Having studio photos taken with my loved ones
- Activities that my son would enjoy like going to an indoor playground
- Nanny to help take care of our toddler during work hours
- Occasionally: New clothes and bags, makeup, perfume, comfortable foot wear, reliable phone that lasts 2+ years
