N.E.

Not “No Entry,” “Not Eligible,” or “North Expressway.” This post is for our fourth featured province, Nueva Ecija. N.E. is also the name of their popular supermarket where you can buy pastries, sumptuous dishes, and frozen goods for pasalubong.

This Thursday, we will be showing their native recipes for Sinampalukang Manok, Tilapiang may Gatas ng Kalabaw paired with their giant eggplant, Kalderetang Kambing, Tulyang Bola-Bola, and Patong Tiim. Yes, you read that right. Tiim for nanuot na tamis at linamnam.

There is certainly more to this province dubbed as the “Rice Granary of the Philippines.” After all, they are already considered as our “Food Bowl.”

You will also see the production of salted eggs and items made from carabao’s milk. Discover how it differs from other sources of dairy products in terms of nutritional value.

Mayor Lorna Mae Balunes-Vero of Llanera, Nueva Ecija is now in her second term. In our upcoming episode, she will share how they implemented the integrated approach encapsulated in the acronym HAPLOS NG BUHAY. I liked that among the municipalities that we have featured so far, they are the first to provide a regular publication by which necessary information reaches the constituents.

A highlight of our visit is the Llanera Techno Pinoy CLARRDEC’s 2010 Best Farmers’ Information and Technology Service (FITS) Center. In relation to the Philippine-Israel Center for Agricultural Training (PICAT), Mayor Vero is proud of having presented the largest eggplant grown in the FITS Center weighing 1.7 kilograms.

Personally, I am glad to be part of the show’s culinary edition, because it is always an adventure to learn about our peoples’ ways of life through what they eat. More to come!
